Our Community Initiatives and Projects
As a social-enterprise, we are moved by the plight of majority of Kenyan families who have to live one day at a time struggling to get access to the most basic needs. Our initiatives are aimed at providing a helping hand to the less fortunate in society.

Menstrual Hygiene Awareness
Adolescent Girls
Sanitary Basket Initiative was started with aim to end period poverty among school going adolescents.
Menstrual Hygiene Awareness
Adolescent Girls
I started this project to help adolescent girls from poor social and economic background access sanitary pads. The nature of my profession and work allows me to 99% interact with the community, therefore I felt it was wise also to give back. In the process of wondering how to give back, I read an article posted by Aljazeera, ” I WISH I WAS A BOY’ The Kenyan girl fighting period poverty. Abdullahi Mire on 24 Feb 2020.
The content made me wonder how many such cases would be there in our society and the victims are suffering silently! Because the Korogocho case featured by Aljazeera was just one case in Nairobi slums, what about other parts of the country especially the rural! And that what can the society do to help our young adolescent girls? I decided I will try fill the gap by providing free health education especially on menstruation and providing access to menstrual products to the school going Kenyan adolescent girl so that period do not get in the way of girls right to education.
Research shows that about 800,000 girls in Kenya miss school 5 to 6 days every month during menstruation because they lack sanitary towels. This means that a girl who is absent from school due to menses for 5 days per month loses 15 learning days equivalent to 2 weeks of learning in every school term. This problem affects negatively the academic performance of the girl child and needs to be addressed.
Sanitary Basket Initiative comes in to help solve the problem by providing necessary support to the needy adolescent girls. This project is managed by a team of like-minded volunteers and led by Charlie Young. Charlie Young together with other male volunteers leading this project is to show the world that menstruation is no longer a taboo and subject for the females only but for the entire community.
Men we have a role to play towards ending period poverty.
